North Pacific RISEnet Regional Workshop, Alaska Edition
University of Alaska Museum of the North hosts a two-day workshop for museum and informal education professionals, bringing the best of RISEnet North Pacific Regional Workshops (normally at regional hub OMSI in Portland, Oregon) to Alaska. Laura Huerta Migus, Director of Professional Development and Inclusion at the Association of Science-Technology Centers, will co-present on a variety of topics, including: Awareness of Gender Equity; Gender, Socioeconomic Status and Multicultural Dynamics; and Designing Girl Friendly Environments and Learning Experiences. Day 1 will focus on gender and equity issues and Day 2 will focus on specific activities for engaging girls, including examples from colleagues with the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net). Detailed agenda to be announced. Recognizing the high cost of travel within Alaska, the travel award cap is raised to $750 for this workshop.
